PTSA Will Vote on Dues Increase at January 23, 2012 Open House
 December, 16, 2011

Dear PTA Members:

Effective July 1, 2011, the National PTA increased their dues by $.50 per membership, bringing their total dues to $2.25. Because of the short notice and our need to post/ vote on dues increases, the Marietta High School PTSA did not raise its dues this year in response to the already-implemented national dues increase.

Effective July 1, 2012, the Georgia PTA will also raise their dues by $.50, bringing the state dues to $1.50 per membership. Together, beginning next year, we will pay $3.75 of our $5.00 per membership to the national and state organizations.

Therefore, we recommend increasing our dues by $1.00 per membership effective July 1, 2012 for the school year 2012-2013 to account for the additional amount which we have to pay our parent organizations. The new dues amount for next year would be $6.00 per membership.

Further, so that we do not get caught in this situation again, where our payment of dues increased without our being able to increase our own dues accordingly, we propose amending our bylaws, as follows:

-Effective July 1, 2012, Marietta High School PTSA increased its dues to $6.00 per membership.

-Effective July 1, 2012, any time the National PTA or Georgia PTA increases their dues, the MHS PTSA dues will increase accordingly.

We will discuss and vote on this amendment at the PTSA Membership meeting on January 23.

Happy Holidays!

Marilynn Schafer

PTSA President

Preserve the Pride Bricks for the Courtyard
We are asking all the friends and alumni of Marietta High School to show their support by purchasing bricks for the courtyard this holiday season.  This is your chance to become a visible part of school history by memorializing the name of a past, present, or future MHS graduate. The cost is just $50 for a 4” X 8” engraved brick with black painted lettering.  Each brick will have up to 3 lines with 18 characters per line as follows:

Line 1: First Name

Line 2: Last Name

Line 3: Class of XXXX

Click here for ordering details:  www.bricksrus.com/order/mhs/index.htm

So this holiday won’t you please donate the funding for one or more bricks for yourself or other MHS graduates and create your own special spot in our courtyard for generations to come.  Thank you!

New NSBA Study Linking Parent Involvement and Student Achievement
The National School Boards Association’s Center for Public Education just released a new report examining research about the relationship between parent involvement and student outcomes. The report reviews the various ways parents get involved with their local schools and finds that something as simple as engaging families in their children’s homework can be one of the best ways to advance their learning.
